My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. ~John 10:27-29
God has used Dr. Whitson to build a multi-campus fellowship where over 2700 participate in worship services. When he arrived at FBCIT in 1983, attendance was 170. Forty years later, "Preacher Mike," as he is affectionately known, has seen thousands of baptisms and hundreds of people serving in vocational ministry. He founded one of the largest private schools in NC in 1992.
Aside from his preaching ministry, his current focus is Cameron's House of Hope, which opened in 2022 in memory of his grandson, Cameron, who died of an accidental drug overdose in 2021. Food, clothing, tutoring, counseling and more are provided to children of drug addicts and support is given to caregivers if needed.
At Home
Though Dr. Whitson has led many ministry efforts around the world, he would quickly tell you that his most important ministry is his family. He has been married to his childhood sweetheart, Kathy, for 53 years. They have two children and five grandchildren.
